Is Homeschooling Enough?
As homeschool moms, we pour our hearts into teaching, guiding, and supporting our children. But sometimes, we can’t help but wonder what the future holds for them and wonder if homeschooling is enough. Will they succeed? Will they be okay? Today, I want to share a message of hope—a reminder that while we can’t see the future, we can trust the One who holds it in His hands.
God Knows and He Cares
“I do know who holds your tomorrow and your child’s future—and nothing is a surprise to Him.”
We can’t see what’s ahead, but God already does. He knows your child—He created them. He sees where you are right now, and He knows exactly what your child needs.
It would sure be nice to have a clear picture of what lies ahead. Unfortunately, life doesn’t happen that way, and that is not how God wants us to live. He doesn’t ask us to know the future—He only asks us to trust Him with it.
When Worry Creeps In
My Personal Struggle with Fear
There was a time when I truly worried about my daughter’s future. She has what I consider a moderate form of dyslexia, and I used to wonder if she would ever be able to hold a job. When she got her first job at McDonald’s, I worried that she wouldn’t be able to count money correctly, make a lot of mistakes, and would come home in tears.
But guess what? That fear never came true. She handled her job beautifully. She even rode her bike to work in the morning before she had a car and she was employed there for a few years before moving on. She was dependable and capable—and I was and still am so proud of her.
Worry Doesn’t Help—It Hurts
Worry steals our peace, our health, and sometimes even our joy. Scripture tells us:
“Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”
(Romans 14:23)
When we worry, we’re stepping outside of faith. And while that might feel convicting, it’s also freeing. It means we can let go and give it to God.
I Still Worry Sometimes
Not too long ago, I couldn’t sleep. I was worrying about something related to my current job—something completely out of my control. I tossed and turned, losing precious rest over a situation I should have handed over to God.
And isn’t that how it often goes? Whether it’s your job or your homeschooling child’s future, we all tend to carry burdens that were never meant to be ours. But when we trust God, the journey becomes sweeter.
What I’ve Learned from Watching My Children Grow
A Beautiful Milestone
A few months ago, I watched that same daughter—my one-time McDonald’s cashier—walk across the stage and receive her college diploma. Yes, the girl I once feared wouldn’t be able to give change to a customer passed college algebra. Yes, there were tears, setbacks, and challenges along the way—but she made it. And I give God all the glory.
Homeschooling Through the Years
I’ve homeschooled all four of my children from kindergarten through high school graduation. Here’s where they are now:
- One is a foreman in the construction field.
- One is an electrician’s apprentice, almost a journeyman.
- One works in the aerospace industry—on satellites or something like that.
- And of course, my college graduate who is currently a pawn broker.
None of this was part of my perfectly laid-out plan. And yet, each of them has found their path. Some didn’t go to college. One never stepped foot in a classroom, not even college. But God led them, equipped them, and placed the right people in their lives at the right time.
The Faithfulness of God
You may be in the thick of the homeschooling years right now—feeling tired, uncertain, or overwhelmed. But I promise you: one day, you’ll look back and be amazed.
You’ll see how God worked behind the scenes.
You’ll remember the fears that never came true.
You’ll witness the growth that came through perseverance.
And most of all, you’ll see His faithfulness in every step.
Keep Going
You won’t do it perfectly. You will worry from time to time. But keep praying. Keep seeking God. Do your best—and leave the rest in His hands.
One day, you too will look back and be in awe of what God has done in your family.
